PLEASE NOTE: The Rankings Reflect Sales For August 2022

I’m following up on August’s New York Times Best Sellers List Announcement. We’re seeing another massive change, this time moving towards Shonen Manga.

While we see a broad grasp of Indie titles hanging on for a two-month streak, we finally see a DC Comics Graphic Novel make its way onto the list. Award-Winning Writer Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman: Book One” landed in the Top Ten at No. 9. Speaking of Indie titles, last month it was Rachel Smythe’s Lore Olympus Vol 2 debuted at No. 1, but now it has been knocked down to No. 11.

Now let’s look at the bigger picture. September’s list is all Shonen. While they are mostly Viz Media titles, we have AidaIro’s Toliet-Bound Hanako-Kun Vol. 14 taking No. 15. Below is a complete list of Shonen titles that took over the list:

  • Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 17- Gege Akutami, Viz Media
  • Spy X Family Vol. 2- Tatsuya Endo, Viz Media
  • Spy X Family Vol. 1- Tatsuya Endo, Viz Media
  • Chainsaw Man Vol. 1- Tatsuki Fujimoto, Viz Media
  • One Piece Vol. 100- Eiichiro Oda, Viz Media
  • Dragon Ball Super Vol. 16- Akira Toriyama. Illustrated by Toyotarou, Viz Media
  • Toliet-Bound Hanako-Kun Vol. 14AidaIro, Yen Press

Keep in mind, with the success of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero at the US Box Office, and One Piece Film Red making its US Debut in October, plus the second cour of the TV anime series Spy X Family, and Chainsaw Man coming up also in October. It is bringing in newer readers and more people curious about these titles.
