Nintendo’s latest remake launched yesterday, flooding retail stores with customers, the internet with nostalgia, fan tributes… and a low-effort AI parody from the White House that felt more like ego-stroking than an actual homage. Luckily, the Los Angeles Public Library stepped up and delivered the real deal—a joyful, imaginative tribute that truly channels the wonder The Legend of Zelda is known for.
Even though this was a thoughtful tribute to The Legend of Zelda, the reel also cleverly worked in a meme with its title: ‘We got Ocarina of the Library before GTA VI.’ In a way, Ocarina of Time and a trip to the library share more in common than you might expect. Both invite you to explore vast new places — one through sprawling worlds on screen, the other through the endless possibilities of imagination — and both reward curiosity by teaching you something new along the way.
The timing couldn’t have been better. Nintendo’s long awaited remake of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time officially launched yesterday, giving a new generation a chance to experience the the classic that redefined adventure games nearly three decades ago while giving longtime fans a polished reason to return to Hyrule. Nintendo confirmed that the remake was built from the ground up for the Nintendo Switch 2, with completely overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, reworked camera and movement controls, and more.

In the end, the Los Angeles Public Library’s “Ocarina of Library” tribute was succeeded on multiple levels. Not only did it honor The Legend of Zelda’s 40th Anniversary with genuine heart, but it also quietly reminded people how public libraries can inspire new readers, spark creativity, and expand intellectual horizons. Their tribute didn’t try to force a message or strokes anyone’s ego— it celebrated the joy of discovery that both Ocarina of Time and a good library have always offered. Sometimes the best homages aren’t always the loudest ones. They’re the ones that quietly remind us why we fell in love with these worlds (and these places) in the first place.
