The Super Mario Bros. Movie Is No. 1 For Its Third Weekend, While Evil Dead Rise Rakes In $23.5 Million

It comes as no surprise. But everyone is still hooked on the Bros! The Super Mario Bros Movie continued its dominant streak for the third weekend in a row, but it was the Supernatural-Horror Flick, Evil Dead Rise, collected $23.5 Million in its first-weekend debut.

The animated film scored a high score on its third weekend, earning $58.23 million. Overall, the Super Mario film has grossed $434.33 Million in North America and $871 Millon globally to stand even higher as the biggest movie of the year.

According to Variety, ticket sales were down 37% from the weekend prior, ranking as the third-highest weekend ever for an animated film domestically (surpassing 2018’s Incredibles 2 with $46.4 million in its third weekend of release) and ranking as the seventh-biggest third weekend of all time (overtaking Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home with $56 million in its third weekend of release).

Even though the Mario Bros THWOMPED their competition, it was the R-Rated Evil Dead Rise that managed to collect $23.5 million from 3,402 North American theaters in its debut. The film added $16.8 million at the international box office, bringing its global gross to $40.3 million. This Blood-Soaked Thriller was the fifth entry in the long-running The Evil Dead Franchise and was originally intended to debut on HBO MAX. This was the first installment in 10 years, following 2013’s “Evil Dead” reboot, which grossed $97.5 million on its $17 million budget.
