It has been a year since Paramount Pictures and SEGA made the monumental announcement regarding not only the third film, but a television spin-off focusing on everyone’s favorite brawler, Knuckles the Echidna. Now, we’re following up with a new cast list and the return of Idris Elba!
Actor Idris Elba will be reprising his role as Knuckles in the upcoming Paramount Plus series. Adam Pally, who appeared in the recent Sonic Movie, will also be reprising his role as Walt Whipple. Joining the duo will be Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, and Ellie Taylor. Rory McCann and Tika Sumpter (Maddie) have also been confirmed to guest star.

The series is currently in production and will follow Knuckles on a journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade as his Protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna Warrior. It will be filled with comedy and action. The series will take place between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which will debut in theaters on December 20th, 2024.
All of the key creative team from the previous films will be returning for the spin-off series, including Jim Fowler, the film’s director, who will be directing the pilot episode. It also includes Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, John Whittington and Toru Nakahara, who serve as executive producers on the series. Idris Elba also serves as executive producer. Additional directors for the series include Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone and Carol Banker.

Whittington, who penned the Sonic 2 script will also write the script for the pilot and is the head writer for the series. The other series writers include Brian Schacter and James Madejski.
