That’s our captain, always making a grand entrance where ever he goes. We knew that the newest film would be big, but we never expected this! One Piece Film: RED had a huge opening weekend. On August 6th, it made its debut on 495 screens across Japan, with the film sailing to 2.25 billion yen (US$16.63 million) from 1.57 million tickets sold. This marks the biggest opening for a One Piece film ever, the best opening weekend for August in Japan, and the second-biggest two-day opening weekend for a film in Japanese history.
According to Crunchyroll’s Japan Correspondent Daryl Harding, the newest One Piece film couldn’t beat Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: The Mugen Train’s opening record at 3.3 Billion Yen, but it took down Jujutsu Kaisen 0’s 1.6 Billion Yen record which was the former 2nd Place holder.
Toei, who is distributing the film in Japan, claimed on Saturday that they were aiming for the “highest-grossing start in the series.” It is clear to say that the goal was met.
ONE PIECE FILM: RED is now playing in Japan with an international release planned thanks to Crunchyroll this fall, and a special crossover with the anime starting on August 14th.

“Uta — the most beloved singer in the world. Her voice, which she sings with while concealing her true identity, has been described as “otherworldly.” She will appear in public for the first time at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans — excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance — the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is “Shanks’ daughter.”
