One Piece Makes History, Surpassing 500 Million Copies Printed and Sold All Around The World

One Piece has made history once again, Eiichiro Oda’s Adventure/Fantasy Shonen manga has surpassed 500 million copies printed (physically) and sold (digitally) around the world, making it the first manga to ever do so, and the first comic to do so from a single author and the second book series to mark this milestone from a single author! Truly Remarkable!

The official One Piece Twitter account announced the news today as the 103rd volume of the series was released in Japan, taking into account the 3 million copies in the first print run for the volume. Crunchyroll’s Japan Correspondent, Daryl Harding Broke down the numbers behind the “500 Million Copies” number, you can check it out here.

Oda was given a new certificate for this award, which can be seen in the image below featuring Weekly Shonen Jump Editor in Chief Hiroyuki Nakano. Oda also holds the Guinness World Record for “Most Copies Published for the Same Manga Series.”

Speaking of the One Hundred Third Volume, the Official One Piece Staff’s Instagram account shared the newest cover, showing Luffy’s newest form, Gear 5 in action. A new promotional video was also shared for the new volume on their YouTube Channel.

It’s truly a great time to be a One Piece Fan, the newest film ONE PIECE FILM: RED is set to premiere in Japan this week with an international release thanks to Crunchyroll this fall, and a special crossover with the anime starting on August 14th.
