
The team behind the new Sonic the Hedgehog Film has struck gold yet again, this time releasing a brand new poster that recreates the iconic box art cover of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 video game on the SEGA Genesis, the box art cover was drawn by Illustrator Greg Martin.
Fans will recognize a clever reference to an old SEGA Genesis AD Campaign on the new poster, “Welcome to the Next Level,” thanks to Games Radar’s Brittany Vincent for pointing that out.
Fans will be able to check out the film a couple days early thanks to a special screening event set for 6:00pm local time on April 6th at participating theaters. Everyone who attends will get an exclusive limited edition Collector’s Print designed by artist Tyson Hesse, as well as a limited edition comic book reprinted with cinema-exclusive art by Nathalie Fourdraine, while supplies last. Jeff Fowler will be directing once again, based on a script by Pat Casey & Josh Miller, and John Whittington, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 opens in U.S. cinemas on April 8th, 2022. The first film had the biggest opening weekend for a Video Game Movie in the United States and Canada, It grossed $319.7 million worldwide, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2020 and the highest-grossing video game film adaptation of all time in North America. Colleen O’Shaughnessey will be returning to the role of Sonic’s Best Friend and Sidekick, Miles “Tails” Prower. Also joining the gang will be Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna. A Third Film has been confirmed a third movie and a spinoff series focusing on Knuckles.


“After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.“
