As Sony pushes further toward a digital-first future, today’s global PSN outage shows the vulnerability of that approach. All services are back online after experiencing issues across PS5, PS4, PS3, PS Vita, Web, and ‘Other’ platforms, earlier this morning.
Today’s major PlayStation Network (PSN) outage lasted roughly eight hours. Services began failing around 8:30 a.m. ET — amid reports of AWS connectivity issues — with most core features restored by approximately 4:30 p.m. ET. While digital-only players were locked out of their libraries, multiplayer features, and the highly anticipated open beta for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, those with physical disc versions of other games remained largely unaffected. Most single-player titles can still be played offline, serving as a timely reminder of one of the key advantages of physical media in an increasingly digital landscape.

Tens of thousands of players were locked out of their digital libraries, multiplayer matches, and even the highly anticipated open beta for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. The outage struck just as the beta went live, preventing many from logging in or joining matches. Arc System Works has acknowledged the disruption, and community trackers indicate the developer is monitoring network stability.
Although core PSN services have since been restored, players are still experiencing login bottlenecks and intermittent matchmaking delays as tens of thousands attempt to queue at once. This has sparked speculation that Arc System Works may extend the beta window beyond the original July 26 deadline.
