If you’re not familiar with it, May 27th is Dragon Quest Day—a celebration of the original Dragon Quest, which launched on May 27, 1986. To mark this year’s monumental 40th anniversary, Square Enix shared exciting updates on upcoming games, including the reveal of DRAGON QUEST XII: Beyond Dreams.

The celebration began with a livestreamed event that featured messages from series creator Yuji Horii, and executive producer Yosuke Saito. The game itself has seen a development restart and a team restart since it was originally announced. Saito said that starting over from scratch was a “major decision, but I believe it was the right one to ensure the next Dragon Quest game will be the one that all of you fans of the series will really love.
