It is two weeks away from their big return to the court, and the boys of Shohoku High are starting the countdown with No 14, Hisashi Mitsui.
The First Slam Dunk has picked up a new 15-second Commercial, showing brief scenes of Mitsui’s moves on the basketball court. The clip says “14 Days Until Their Game Begins“.
It was a clever marketing promotion on Toei Animation’s part. Including the promotion from August, which involved sports stores in Shibuya and Harajuku Japan.
Toei Animation and DandeLion Animation Studio are animating the movie. Original mangaka Takehiko Inoue is directing the movie and writing the screenplay. Yasuyuki Ebara is doing character designs and also serving as chief animation director. The series is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, but you will need a Premium Subscription to watch it.
Fans in Japan will be able to catch the action both in regular theaters and IMAX on December 3rd. But that’s not all, on December 10th, The First Slam Dunk will not only debut on 40 IMAX Screens but it will expand to Dolby Cinema Screens at 34 theaters. Advance Tickets are now available for regular and IMAX viewings ahead of the premiere.
This iconic Sports Manga ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1990 to 1996 for a total of 31 volumes. The manga inspired a television anime in 1993 and had four anime film sequels. Viz Media released all 31 volumes of the manga in English.
