Oh No, Not Again!
For all of those who have been eagerly awaiting the newest anime based on the work of Junji Ito, I have some bad news once again. There was an update from the anime adaption’s social media account earlier today, and Uzumaki would be facing another delay.
According to the statement given from the social media account, “To replicate the quality of the intricate designs and detailed line work of Mr. Ito’s classic manga, Director Nagahama, and the production team has asked for
additional time to recreate Ito’s masterpiece properly.” They are committed to pursuing the completion of the work at the highest caliber, they will announce a new, firm release date when the time has come.
Announced in September 2019, that Adult Swim would be partnering with Production I.G to adapt Junji Ito’s Horror Manga Uzumaki, and Hiroshi Nagahama would serve as the Director.
In June 2021, both Nagahama and Jason DeMarco, the co-creator and Executive Producer of Adult Swim released a statement regarding Uzumaki’s production, due to the impact COVID had on the Anime Industry, it caused it to come to a screeching halt, had to restructure their plan from the start.
Uzumaki began as a Serial in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Spirits Magazine in January 1998 and ended in August 1999. It would later be compiled into three bound volumes. In North America, Viz Media serialized an English-language translation of the series in its monthly magazine Pulp from the February 2001 issue to the August 2002 issue. In October 2013, Viz would publish an omnibus edition that included twelve color pages.
“Kurouzu-cho, a small fogbound town on the coast of Japan, is cursed. According to Shuichi Saito, the withdrawn boyfriend of teenager Kirie Goshima, their town is haunted not by a person or being but a pattern: UZUMAKI, the spiral—the hypnotic secret shape of the world. The bizarre masterpiece horror manga is now available all in a single volume. Fall into a whirlpool of terror!“
