Darkhorse Comics took to Twitter to announce the new release date for the new animated series Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles.
The show takes place in the future, a teenage samurai named Yuichi is the descendant of the Legendary Samurai, Miyamoto Usagi, on his epic quest to become a true samurai. But he isn’t alone! He leads a ragtag team of misfit heroes including a roguish bounty hunter, a cunning ninja, an acrobatic pickpocket, and a faithful pet lizard – as he battles depth-charging moles, metal-tipped winged bats, and monsters from another dimension, all in the pursuit to become the best Samurai Usagi!

The Series is set to be released on April 28th, Sakai is serving as an executive producer, along with Candie and Doug Langdale, who are also the showrunners. Additional executive producers include Gaumont’s Nicolas Atlan, Terry Kalagian, Sidonie Dumas, and Christophe Riandee; Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Chris Tongue; and Atomic Monster’s James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett. Ben Jones is the supervising producer, and Khang Le is the art director.
The series is an adaption of the Usagi Yojimbo Comic Book Series written by Stan Sakai, which includes references to the work of the legendary filmmaker, Akira Kurosawa and other icons of Japanese Culture, Godzilla, Zatoichi, and Lone Wolf and Cub. The Comic Book Series made its debut in November 1984 in Albedo Anthropomorphics #2 and is still ongoing today. Each story included references to Japanese Folklore, Japanese History, and Japanese Mythical Creatures.
