Here we are! The first review of 2022, and starting it off with the Second Volume of My Hero Academia Team-Up Missions by Mangaka Yoko Akiyama. First off, as always, thanks to Viz Media for the opportunity to review this title, the book is available now, wherever you pick up your manga.
Based on the popular Superhero Manga by Kohei Horikoshi, this spin-off series is about Izuku Midoriya and his other hero classmates at U.A. High who is paired up with not only students from other Hero Schools but with Pro-Heroes as well, to participate in specially-requested missions as part of the “Team-Up Missions Program“.
In this volume, we find Deku venturing into the abyss with Tokoyami or Shoto and Denki partake in a special team-up mission that puts their cooking skills to the test. This volume also includes two special one-shot stories that tie in with the second My Hero Academia movie “Heroes Rising”.
Like its first volume, it gives readers a unique look into the Heroes while they are participating in the Team-Up Missions Program and the villains they come across, but there is one thing I would like to point out, however, and that this series will be more for people who have read the Main Story and who are familiar with them, that is the only downside to this Manga Series. This volume does have wholesome moments and does continue to play on the main story’s charm and that was the interesting “Quirks” that these heroes have and use, given some are weird or unique but it helps keep the story going.
As I’ve mentioned before, this includes a tie-in to Heroes Rising, I will not give anything away but I think it was a fascinating idea to introduce these special one-shot stories in the volume. If you’re looking for a fun side-story with wholesome moments, this is the one for you!
