While it is breaking records in Manga Sales according to a new Oricon Report, Demon Slayer: The Mugen Train is continuing its reign on the Japanese Box Office. Originally number two on the Box Office Chart was James Cameron’s Titanic, now only behind Spirited Away as the highest-grossing film in Japan. it has been dethroned by Ufotable’s Demon Slayer Movie. Demon Slayer also exceeded 20 million tickets sold in the region, overtaking Pokemon: The Movie 2000‘s worldwide publicized admission data.

At the Japanese box office, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has brought in 27,512,438,050 yen (US$264,816,846), which makes it the second-highest-grossing film of all time in the region, beating out Titanic for the second-place spot. Demon Slayer now only has Spirited Away in its sights and the Studio Ghibli film’s huge 30.80 billion yen (US$296.4 million) box office gross. In the worldwide box office chart for 2020, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is now the highest-grossing animated film of the year based on the Japanese box office alone, beating out China’s Jiang Ziya. It is currently 6th at the worldwide box office for 2020 behind Sonic the Hedgehog.

For ticket sales, The Mugen Train broke the 20 million mark, selling 20,532,177 tickets since it opened in Japan on October 16. The film is the 3rd most-watched film in Japan, behind Spirited Away and Tokyo Olympiad, and the 7th most-watched anime film in cinemas around the world, taking over Pokemon: The Movie 2000, and behind Howl’s Moving Castle.
