Auction house Sotheby’s has announced that they will be auctioning a large lot of Original Art and other items from the world of Manga and Anime that include anime such as Gundam, Pokemon, Dragonball, My Neighbor Totoro, and Astro Boy. As a reminder, they recently held an Auction for Every DC Comics Issue from 1935, to 2014. Here is a description of the Auction:
“Sotheby’s Hong Kong presents “Manga,” a selling exhibition with an exciting collection of unique drawings and original Animation Celluloid Pictures (cel-ga), presenting some of the most beloved characters from popular animation series including Pokemon, Dragon Ball, Astro Boy, and Anpanman. These unique drawings and cel-ga were produced by some of the most prestigious animation houses, such as Studio Ghibli and Toei Animation.
A multi-million business that embraces multiple genres spanning comic books, anime, and gaming, Manga is a worldwide cultural phenomenon that has forged a new international visual language. With its influence seen in different fields ranging from fashion, film, to contemporary art, Manga is not only deeply embedded in everyday life but celebrated by many as a new arena of collectible art.
The auction features 60 unique drawings and original Animation Celluloid Pictures (cel-ga), presenting some of the most beloved characters from popular animation series including Pokemon, Dragon Ball, Gundam, and Totoro. These unique drawings and cel-ga were produced by some of the most prestigious animation houses, such as Studio Ghibli and Toei Animation.
Apart from the 60 works slated for CONTEMPORARY SHOWCASE: MANGA, an additional 100 pieces will be presented in a selling exhibition at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Gallery.”

The Auction and Gallery will be held at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Gallery, from April 29th thru May 8th, however, the online auction will be taking place on May 5th through May 11th.
