What’re you going to pick up?
ComicList has a list of what is coming out this week, it also includes that one Batman Comic everyone has been waiting for and 80 years in the making; Detective Comics Issue #1000 (And with it, A LOT of variant covers for the occasion) we salute the men who made it possible for carrying on for so long; Bob Kane and Bill Finger.
Red’s Picks of the Week
Dial ‘H’ for Hero!
Synopsis: Miguel, a teen daredevil, becomes the newest wielder of the Hero Dial-a rotary phone-like device that grants the user superpowers for one hour when they dial H-E-R-O. Will he rise as a new hero in the DC Universe or crumble under the weight of responsibility the dial thrusts upon him? This blistering new six-issue miniseries joins the Wonder Comics lineup with stories by award-winning fan favorite Sam Humphries (HARLEY QUINN) and art by Joe Quinones (Howard the Duck).
Red: I remember when they launched the series during the ‘New 52’ and it didn’t sell so well, most of DC’s stuff wasn’t selling so well at the time unless you were Batman or the Bat-Family. It ended with 15 issues and a spin-off issue during the villains month. But I feel that this time it will be different with it being a miniseries.
Fantastic Four #8
Synopsis: ‘HERALD OF DOOM’ continues with ‘FIRST-WORLD POWER’! Latveria is about to take its rightful place on the world stage. Thanks to the benevolence and ingenuity of your beloved leader, Victor Von Doom, Latverians will soon know a new age of peace and prosperity! All of this shall come to pass – as long as we can repel these four nefarious foreign invaders who have illegally entered our beloved country! Death to the Fantastic Four!
Red: One of the things fans were looking forward to was the return of the Fantastic Four and it has been a great series so far, say what you want about Dan Slott but he is one of the best writers out there; and no return can be complete without the beloved leader Victor Von Doom! This is an issue you wouldn’t want to miss!
The Forgotten Queen #2
Synopsis: ‘True to the name she’s been called throughout history, the War-Monger knows how to get a good fight going among even the best of friends. The outcome of the battle never mattered to her – at least, not until she fell head over heels for the Mongol Empire’s most fearsome warrior. She can poison hearts against one another…but can she win one for herself?‘
Red: A series that just started over at Valiant, I personally haven’t read it but from what I am told on Social Media that it is a good read, the writer, Tini Howard recently signed a Marvel Exclusive.
Synopsis: Riri’s missing friend has been found, but the mystery surrounding her disappearance is far from over. Midnight’s Fire makes it clear that he’s not done with Ironheart – and he intends to make her an offer she can’t refuse. In the face of incredible power and uncertain choices, what path will Ironheart take?
Red: This has been one of my favorite Marvel series, Ironheart is one of the best comics out there and the creative team for the book has been knocking it out of the park with these deep events Riri has been struggling with during her time as a hero. This is my Hot Pick for this week
The Flash #67
Synopsis: The Flash is running himself ragged trying to learn about the new forces, but all it’s done is tear his life apart. Now that he’s back from his Force Quest and home in Central City, he finds that the city was just fine without him, better even! His home is crime-free, and it doesn’t need the Flash anymore! But where has Commander Cold gone? Barry races to find him and hopefully figure out what’s happened while he was away!
Red: One of my favorite Flash Rogues has been The Trickster, James Jesse was a villain I really enjoyed reading about because he stuck out more than the other rogues, which I might get a lot of laughs over it but watching Mark Hamill’s version of Trickster during The Flash series from the 90s, and now during his cameo with the current Flash series was brilliant. Flash makes the list again because the series has been on fire lately with Barry’s Journey on his Force Quest, then the recent team up with Batman during “The Price” event.
