‘I will be your Sword!’

It’s finally here, Kirito took down the malicious Senator Chudelkin and his Flame ‘Jester’ Golem thanks to the help of Eugeo and Alice; Kirito and his friends finally find out what the ‘Pontifex’s evil plan is and her real identity, The Administrator summoned a gigantic Sword Golem; with it poised to destroy the three fighters until Charlotte intervened, sacrificing herself to stop the Golem. Now that the Cardinal has appeared, will it be enough to stop the Administrator?

We begin our review at the stare off between the Cardinal and Administrator, clear to see how much the two hate each other, the Administrator addresses the Cardinal as “Pipsqueak” the two argue about Underworld, what is best for everyone and the job of an Administrator, The Cardinal asks the deranged Quinella where were the original wielders of the weapons that made the golem, which Quinella explains to her that they were used to be experimented on which shocks Kirito, Knight Alice and Eugeo; who looks up at the ceiling with sheer dismay and horror! The Administrator used converted human units to make the Sword Golem and the source of its life was the Piety Module. As for her plans for defeating the Dark territory was to create more golems, and use 1/2 of the human population as the material.

I felt that the Cardinal and Administrator confrontation was too one-sided, it didn’t really do anything to push the plot, just giving a “You can’t tell your God what to do, I’ll do what I want anyway despite our agreement.” Killing her off just to move the story along has been over-done. Eugeo giving his life to strike the Administrator down was sad but very strange to randomly come up with out of the blue. Looks like we’ll see Kirito fight Quinella and we are going to be at the end of the season next week from the looks of things.

Final Rating: 7.9 out of 10

  1. I’m just finding this series really frustrating at the moment. A lot of stuff is coming out of nowhere or just seems like a not very smart thing to do and none of the fights have been particularly satisfying to watch. I’d really like more from this series but it just isn’t getting there.

    • I agree, this season was hard to get into. The others really didn’t have that issue because it was something we were used to already. Even though seeing Ordinal Scale helped with setting up a small glimpse of this season’s premise but the final product was too vague. Hopefully, it will get better on the other half of the season next time.
