Kamen Rider Ex-Aid (仮面ライダーエグゼイド) is a television series produced by Toei and TV Asahi. It is the eighteenth series in the Heisei era and the thirty-first Kamen Rider series in the franchise. Airing from October 2, 2016 to August 27, 2017 for 45 episodes, the series centers on a group of doctors who are also skilled gamers. Using Gamer Drivers and cartridge-like Rider Gashats, they transform into video game-themed Kamen Riders to battle the Bugster Virus — a digital pathogen that infects humans through video games and manifests as monstrous “Bugsters.”

The series is notable for its unique fusion of medical drama and video game culture. Its concept was deliberately crafted to make hospitals feel less intimidating to children by blending the serious world of medicine with colorful, high-energy game aesthetics and mechanics (level-ups, continues, game overs, and genre-specific forms inspired by platformers, RPGs, shooters, rhythm games, and more). Beyond the main television series, the Ex-Aid media franchise includes theatrical films (such as the Heisei Generations crossovers and True Ending), the three-part V-Cinema series Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Trilogy: Another Ending, a novel (Mighty Novel X), video game appearances, an extensive toyline, and stage shows. Characters from the series, particularly Emu Hojo/Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, have also made notable cameo and guest appearances in later works, most prominently in Kamen Rider Zi-O.

Kamen Rider Kuuga serves as not only the tenth installment in the Kamen Rider Franchise but also the very first Kamen Rider in the Heisei Period. It was the first standalone Kamen Rider Television Series since Kamen Rider RX, it revived the franchise and brought the series into the 21st Century. Kuuga was the first Kamen Rider Television Series that was broadcast in a wide-screen (letterbox) format, which premiered on January 30, 2000, to January 21, 2001, consisting of 49 episodes, and four specials.Kuuga is the modern successor to an ancient warrior who once sealed away the Grongi (an ancient tribe that plays a deadly “game” of ritualistic murder). The design draws from stag beetles and ancient aesthetics. The protagonist, Yusuke Godai, is a cheerful, adventure-loving young man who fights not out of duty or revenge, but simply because he wants people to be happy and safe.

Kamen Rider Kuuga would inspire two manga spin-offs, one featured in TeleCoro Comic magazine,  and its reboot series written by Toshiki Inoue and illustrated by Hitotsu Yokoshima, which would be later licensed by Titan Publishing Group for English publication under their new manga imprint. Kamen Rider Kuuga also inspired a S.I.C. Hero Saga Story series, a novel, and a video game. KAMEN RIDER KUUGA is available now on Blu-ray.
