There is sad news coming in from the editorial department of Monthly Shonen Gangan. Yoko Umezu, the co-creator of the manga series, Vermeil in Gold: The Failing Student and the Strongest Scourge Plunge Into the World of Magic (金装のヴェルメイユ〜崖っぷち魔術師は最強の厄災と魔法世界を突き進む〜) passed away on July 7th at age 47, due to a Cerebral Infarction.
According to the statement, the sudden passing was something that Umezu didn’t expect and described the loss as an extremely sad event for her family, the editorial department, and everyone who had been involved with her. It also informed formally informed the readers who had supported her work during her lifetime of her passing.
The editorial department also expressed their heartfelt gratitude and deep respect for Yoko Umezu, and her career as a manga artist. The Department also offered its heartfelt prayers for her peace. Kotā Amana released a statement shortly after the Obituary was published, revealing that Amana was shocked and saddened when he heard the news. Amana said he always felt her kind personality and dedication to her work through the manuscripts in each issue.
What happens next for the Vermeil in Gold Manga?

The editorial department also announced that Umezu’s funeral had already been held privately with family members and close relatives in attendance. News regarding Vermeil in Gold’s future has already been decided. The latest chapter in the July Issue of Monthly Shonen Gangan would conclude the series.
Furthermore, the editorial department added that information concerning future plans, including the publication of chapters not yet collected in tankobon volumes, will be announced once details have been decided through Monthly Shonen Gangan and its official website.

Vermeil in Gold: The Failing Student and the Strongest Scourge Plunge Into the World of Magic (金装のヴェルメイユ〜崖っぷち魔術師は最強の厄災と魔法世界を突き進む〜) was written by Kotā Amana and illustrated by Yoko Umezu. It was first serialized in Square Enix’s shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Gangan from August 2018 to June 2026, with its chapters collected into eleven tankōbon volumes. Square Enix’s Manga UP! Global service and Comikey both publish the manga in English digitally. The manga would inspire a TV anime adaptation produced by Staples Entertainment that aired from from July to September 2022. The series is available to watch on HIDIVE and to own on Blu-ray.
