As of today, Sony/Marvel Studio’s Spider-Man Brand New Day is now the biggest opening ever at the North American box office with a 3-day of $360M, taking down Disney/Marvel Studio’s previous domestic debut record with 2019’s Avengers: Endgame which opened to $357.1M. The revised global opening now stands at $932M, which still stands as the second best worldwide opening at the box office behind Avengers: Endgame‘s $1.22 billion.

The record-breaking weekend marks a personal best domestic launch for Tom Holland, as well as a top career opening overall for co-star Zendaya and director Destin Daniel Cretton. Given it’s historic momentum, industry trackers are monitoring whether if Brand New Day will surpass Spider-Man No Way Home ($1.92 billion global total) to become the highest-grossing standalone Spider-Man installment in history.
Spider-Man Brand New Day proved to be a web-spinning success story, setting records for the biggest Thursday previews and top Friday opening domestic sum, along with becoming Sony’s best-ever launch. Before the weekend, Sony was projecting a much less dazzling start of $195 million domestic and $465 million global that would have still Spider-Man’s new movie among the top 10 all-time debuts. Hailing from producers Marvel Studios and Amy Pascal, it carries a $225 million production budget.

The biggest surprise was a new announcement from IMAX, which confirmed that Brand New Day and Odyssey will share the Imax network in North America starting this Thursday, Aug. 6. The move follows a strong IMAX opening for the film in China, Japan and South Korea, where it generated $23 million at the IMAX box office. Tickets will go on sale tomorrow.

It’s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him — and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him — sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.
