On January 1, 2024, a devastating 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula, severely damaging Wajima City—home of legendary manga creator Go Nagai and his Memorial Museum. Miraculously, many of the original exhibits survived the fire, leading to the upcoming revival exhibition “Eternal Spirits- Go Nagai GO! Wonderland Revival” at the Musuem of Kyoto this November.
The new exhibition will feature Nagai’s original drawings, manuscripts, and figures that were on display when the Go Nagai Memorial museum opened, including new manga works that he drew specifically for the exhibition, a new teaser was released on the exhibition’s official Twitter account. The exhibition will be taking place from Saturday, November 28th to Monday, January 11th, 2027.
According to the Exhibition’s official website, many thought that the original exhibitions were lost due to the damage from the earthquake. But due to the fire prevention measures implemented when the museum first opened, 108 pieces of Nagai’s original art pieces and figures were discovered inside the building, whose exterior walls were blackened by the fire.
