Cyborg 009 Nemesis Unveils Sleek New Group Visual for Summer 2026 Streaming Premiere

The team is finally all together. Ishinomori Productions has released the full group visual for the 00 Cyborgs in the upcoming anime Cyborg 009: Nemesis, along with an updated cast list that completes the lineup of classic heroes led by Joe Shimamura/009.

Many have expressed disappointment online, criticizing the new visuals for smoothing out the characters’ distinctive traits—such as Geronimo Jr./005’s iconic flat-top mohawk, Jet Link/002’s long swept-back ginger hair and prominent nose, along with the varied ages and body types that defined Shotaro Ishinomori’s original designs—in favor of a more uniform, polished “ikemen” (handsome male) aesthetic. While some praise the dynamic red-and-gold suits and high-energy presentation, others feel the team has lost the raw personality and charm of the classic Cyborg 009 lineup, with some arguing that Ishinomori’s distinctive vision has been diluted in the process.

Newly Announced Cast:

These new additions join the previously announced cast members, which include both the classic 00 Cyborgs and the rival N00 Cyborgs (also known as the Nemesis team). Cyborg 009: Nemesis is scheduled to stream in Summer 2026. The series is directed by Hideki Anbo at studio ARECT, with Atsuhiro Tomioka and CHARATEX handling the screenplay, and sanorin serving as character designer.

Cyborg 009 (サイボーグ・ゼロ・ゼロ・ナイン) was created by Shotaro Ishinomori. It originally began serialization in Weekly Shōnen King (published by Shōnen Gahōsha) on July 19, 1964. The series later appeared across numerous other Japanese manga magazines from various publishers, including Monthly Shōnen King, Weekly Shōnen Magazine, Shōnen Big Comic, COM, Shōjo Comic, Weekly Shōnen Sunday, Monthly Shōnen Jump, and Monthly Comic Nora. It ran from 1964 to 1981 and was eventually collected into 27 tankōbon volumes. In North America, it was first published by Tokyopop, and in 2012, digital distributor comiXology licensed the full catalogue from Ishinomori Productions.The franchise has expanded into multiple adaptations, including several anime series (notably the 1968 TV series, the 1979 version, and the popular 2001 series Cyborg 009: The Cyborg Soldier), theatrical films, and the 2016 movie trilogy Cyborg 009: Call of Justice. It has also inspired crossovers such as the manga 8 Man vs. Cyborg 009 and the 2015 OVA Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman. In 2013, an American full-color graphic novel adaptation was released by Archaia Entertainment, offering a modern retelling of the early story arcs.
