Ken Wakui’s Astro Royale Makes Its Debut in This Week’s Weekly Shonen Jump

It’s a new week, and with it starts a brand-new adventure! This year’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine’s 20th issue starts a thrilling new tale filled with gangs and superpowers! Ken Wakui takes Yanki Sci-Fi to another level with Astro Royale (Negai no Astro).

Astro Royale was first announced in this year’s Weekly Shonen Jump issue 19, along with two familiar creators starting a new series as well. Alien Area creator Fusai Naba’s new series, Kyokutō Necromance (Far East Necromance) will begin on this year’s 21st issue on April 22, while Houki no Kariudo creator Omusuke Kobayashi will also launch the Saikurubiyori series in the 24th issue on May 13.

One notable feature I would like to point out about Wakui’s newest venture is the design similarity with a character from an independent shōnen manga anthology known as Saturday AM. Saturday AM Co-Founder Odunze Oguguo mentioned on Twitter that he has been getting notifications about Astro Royale’s protagonist looking similar to Apple Black’s protagonist, Sano Tamashii. Fans of Apple Black have voiced their concern about the new series’s character design having a similar design as well. It could be a coincidence, I am not sure. Be sure to check out and support their work!

Shueisha also released a brand-new promotional video to promote the series’s launch, Astro Royale is available now to read on Manga Plus and Viz Media.

The new series from Ken Wakui, the creator of Shinjuku Swan and Tokyo Revengers! As the battle to decide the next leader of the Yotsurugi gang that runs Asakusa is heating up, a meteorite strike suddenly awakens superpowers in the people of Japan. How will Hibaru Yotsurugi, the son of the previous gang leader, come out of this?!
