Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Noh/Kyogen Adaptation Returns In August 2024

You asked for it, now it’s making a come back! Based on the iconic dark fantasy manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba will see the return of the Noh/Kyogen Theater adaptation this summer.

In a new announcement on their official website, the Noh/Kyogen Theater Adaptation will be having a new performance at the Sky Theater MBS, a brand-new venue located in Osaka Japan. The adaptation is celebrating its two-year anniversary, it was first debuted in April 2022.

The performance will take place on August 21 through the 25 with ticket prices 12,500 Yen ($82.46 USD), while it is half price for elementary school students at 6,250 Yen ($41.23 USD). Preschool children are not allowed to enter. The staff list includes Bunzo Ohtsuki, who is a national treasure and a winner of the Person of Cultural Merit Award. Ohtsuki is also performing in the play, portraying Rui, Lower Rank Five in the Twelve Kizuki. Meanwhile, The award-winning Kyogen actor Nomura Mansai II serves as the director and takes on the role of Muzan Kibutsuji and several other roles. Hirotada Kamei, son of the designated National Treasure Tadao Kamei, handles the tone of the play. And Yuichi Kinoshita, Head of the Kinoshita-Kabuki Company is handling the script. Bunzo’s student, Yuichi Ohtsuki portrays the protagonists Tanjiro and his younger sister Nezuko Kamado. Additional casting includes Yuki Nomura as Zenitsu Agatsuma, Sabuto, Taichiro Nomura as Inosuke Yukihira, and Hotaru Haganezuka.

It is the Taisho Period in Japan. Tanjiro, a kindhearted boy who sells charcoal for a living, finds his family slaughtered by a demon. To make matters worse, his younger sister Nezuko, the sole survivor, has been transformed into a demon herself.

Though devastated by this grim reality, Tanjiro resolves to become a “demon slayer” so that he can turn his sister back into a human, and kill the demon that massacred his family.
