It’s that time again. Time for another edition of This Week In The Nerd Fandom! We’re going to look at several big topics that came up recently and will include links to the news sources of each topic.

Titles for Kamen Rider Geats and Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger Films Are Revealed

During the weekend, the double-billed tokusatsu films for Kamen Rider Geats and Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger have been revealed. For Geats, it’s titled Kamen Rider Geats: 4 Aces and The Black Fox, and a new name for the mystery rider, Kamen Rider X-Geats.

As for the Super Sentai film, it is titled Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger: Adventure Heaven. Both films will make their debut on July 28th.

Tokyo Revengers TV Anime Teases Tenjiku Arc

Two months ago, we learned that the anime adaptation of Ken Wakui’s Tokyo Revengers would be adapting the Tenjiku Arc. During a fan event at the LINE CUBE SHIBUYA, a new trailer has been released with the introduction of Tenjiku’s Four Heavenly Kings. Joining the cast will be Daisuke Namikawa (Ran Haitani), Hiro Shimono (Rindo Haitani), Seiichiro Yamashita (Kakucho), and Koki Uchiyama (Shion Madarame). The new season has also been confirmed for an October 2023 premiere on MBS, TV Tokyo, and AT-X, with exclusive streaming on Disney+.

Hinomaru Sumo’s Kawada Debuts Martial Master Asumi

From the creator of Hinomaru Sumo, comes a new and unique sports manga series! Martial Master Asumi made its debut in this year’s 29th issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine, the first chapter is available now on Viz Media’s Shonen Jump App/Web Reader, and Shueisha’s Manga Plus App/Web Reader. The anime adaptation of Kawada’s Hinomaru Sumo is available now on Crunchyroll, and be sure to check out the review for this hidden gem.

My Hero Academia Volume 34 takes the No. 1 Spot in May’s Circana Bookscan Chart for Adult Graphic Novels

There may have been fewer manga titles on the latest Circana Bookscan chart, but fear not, manga sales have been pretty healthy. My Hero Academia Volume 34 takes the No. 1 spot with several other May Releases taking up the top five as well, which include One Piece Volume 102, One Punch Man Volume 25, and Kaiju No. 8 Volume 6. Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse Debuts At No. 2 In Japan

It was Miles Morales taking on not only the world but the entire Spider-Verse in the recent box office report from Japan. The Wall Crawler’s latest film raked in 396 million yen (2.8 million USD) on 249,000 admissions in its first three days and made its second-place debut in the weekend box office ranking. Not Even Batman Could Save The Flash In Its Disappointing Debut.

After being praised as The Greatest Superhero Film of All Time, the moment finally came for Warner Bros. The Flash made its debut with a disappointing $55 Million. The film’s legacy was marred with controversy due to Ezra Miller’s Criminal Misconduct and its marketing focusing on not the film’s main hero but on Michael Keaton’s Batman. It fell into the trope that Marvel Studios has done with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and that was relying on another Superhero’s Starpower to make it big at the Box Office.

Rurouni Kenshin Gets A New Opening Theme and More.

The newest promotional video for the upcoming reboot adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s Rurouni Kenshin highlighted the new opening theme song. The new theme, Hiten, will be performed by Ayase✕R-Shitei and the series has also been confirmed to run for two consecutive cours (a quarter of a year) or half a year. The Live-Action One Piece Series Is Set To Premiere On August 31st.

The One Piece is real! We finally have a confirmed release date for the newest Live-Action adaptation of One Piece, set to debut on August 31st. It was announced during Netflix’s TUDUM 2023 event, the outfits were spot-on, especially with the subtle nods to the One Piece manga covers in the beginning.

Netflix offers a First-Look at the Live-Action Adaption of Avatar: The Last Airbender

It was another big surprise from this year’s TUDUM event by Netflix. A new look at Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko. The series is set to debut in 2024.
