Lionsgate Acquires The Film Rights For SEGA’s Streets of Rage Live-Action Adaption

Streets of Rage has finally found a place to call home. Yesterday, it was announced that Lionsgate obtained the film rights for the live-action adaption of SEGA’s side-scrolling brawler video game, Streets of Rage with John Wick Creator, Derek Kolstad.

Kolstad will be joined by the videogame brand’s Toru Nakahara, dj2 Entertainment’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I. Stevenson, Dan Jevons, and Escape Artists Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Tony Shaw.

Streets of Rage was one of the most popular video game franchises in the 90s, with SEGA publishing three between 1991 and 1994. In 2020, the long-awaited fourth game in the series was released with rave reviews and quickly became a best-seller. For more on this story, Deadline has exclusive details.

Following Sonic the Hedgehog 2‘s impressive box office performance. dj2 signed an overall deal with Amazon earlier in the year and also is looking to adapt The Game Awards winner It Takes Two for television and film.
