One Piece Film: RED made its debut on Friday. According to Anime News Network, the film earned $1,696,124 on Thursday via preview screenings and US $3,103,701 on Friday in the United States, for a combined opening-day total of US $4,799,825 in 2,367 theaters. The opening-day numbers narrowly beat out Black Adam to rank at #1 for Friday earnings.
Also, Deadline followed up with an updated box office report. While the new One Piece Film did unseat the latest DC Comics film for a night, it was Black Adam that stood tall at number one in the box office for the third weekend with $18.5M, with the final number at $137.4M.
While this may sound negative to some, One Piece Film: RED did a great job on its premiere weekend, given what would be coming next, and that’s Marvel Studio’s Wakanda Forever. The final numbers for the US Box Office came to $9.47 M.
Also, the newest Box Office Report came in from Saudi Arabia. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates have unseated Black Adam once again with the biggest-ever opening for a Japanese anime in the territory, including previews, which drew 61,000 admissions for a box office of $1.04M. Also, according to Deadline, One Piece Film: RED is the third feature in the genre to top the box office in the territory over the past 18 months. Japanese Animation has a strong following in Saudi Arabia.
The opening admissions figure is 14% higher than that achieved by previous record holder Jujutsu Kaisen 0 at the beginning of 2022 and 50% more than Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train, which broke out in May 2021.
Front Row said the film had also achieved one of the biggest-ever opening days for a PG-12 movie in Saudia Arabia and the second biggest-ever opening day for an animated film behind Universal’s Minions: The Rise of Gru.
“Uta — the most beloved singer in the world. Her voice, which she sings with while concealing her true identity, has been described as “otherworldly.” She will appear in public for the first time at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans — excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance — the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is “Shanks’ daughter.”
