It’s less than a week away from the premiere of the newest sci-fi series, Tatumi Time Machine Blues. And two days ago, it was announced that the Europe Kikaku Theater Group would be joining the cast, a first when a show scriptwriter made their voice acting debut. But they are joining as unnamed tenants of the Shimogamo Yuusuiso boarding house.
Tatami Time Machine Blues is set over six episodes released weekly on Disney+ starting September 14th in Japan, with the fifth and sixth episodes released together on October 12th. The series is also being compiled into a film, which releases in Japan on September 30th for a limited-three-week span. The sixth episode is an exclusive story that will only be released on Disney+.
Sonny Boy director Shingo Natsume is directing Tatami Time Machine Blues at Science SARU, taking over from Masaaki Yuasa who directed The Tatami Galaxy and spin-off anime film The Night Is Short, Walk On Girl. Disney+ will be releasing the series internationally, though no date is confirmed at this time.

“During a sweltering midsummer day when Ozu, the protagonist’s “terrible friend,” accidentally drowns the only remote control for the air conditioning unit in their apartment. While they discuss their predicament with Akashi, the protagonist’s raven-haired love interest, a sloppily-dressed time-traveling student arrives from 25 years in the future, prompting the protagonist to borrow his time machine to snatch the remote control from the past before it breaks.”
