Walt Disney follows a similar move Warner Bros has done regarding Movie Premieres on Stream and in Theaters.
Taking a page from Warner Bros. monumental announcement (to be fair, the recent announcement regarding yesterday’s Deal with Sony was monumental too!) The newest Animated Feature Raya and the Last Dragon will be premiering both in theater and Disney Plus via Premier Access on March 5th, 2021.
The announcement was made at Thursday’s investor presentation, in which the company announced that it was planning 10 Marvel series and 10 Star Wars series for the streaming service. Disney previously premiered “Mulan” on Premier Access. With many theaters closed due to COVID-19, it has also opted to send some movies to Disney Plus as a way to bolster the service. “Soul” and “Artemis Fowl” have debuted on Disney Plus, forgoing a theatrical release, Raya and the Last Dragon will be available to rent on Premier Access, which comes with a hefty $30 rental fee. Only Disney Plus subscribers will be able to watch the film on the service.
