Halle Bailey, of the R&B duo Chole X Halle, has taken on the role Ariel in the live-action remake of the Little Mermaid; Ariel is the rebellious daughter of King Triton, who longs to live on Dry Land.
Bailey would be joining Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay and, Awkwafina to be acting and lending their voices for live action and CG parts. Rob Marshall, who will be directing the Live-Action Remake had this to say about Bailey being cast for the role:
“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance plus a glorious singing voice all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.”

Menken will team with Lin-Manuel Miranda on the music. Ron Clements and John Musker were behind the animated 1989 original, which won best original song and score Oscars for Alan Menken.
