Coming to US theaters July 1st and 2nd, Whisper of the Heart
As you’re familiar with in our last article, we mentioned that GKids and Fathom Events holds an event for US theaters called ‘Studio Ghibli Fest’. The Screenings will be accompanied by a special introduction by Rebecca Sugar, the creator of the hit Cartoon Network show Steven Universe; she is a long time anime fan and a Studio Ghibli fan.
It isn’t a secret about Sugar’s fondness for Studio Ghibli and the creators that were associated with the Studio, in 2013 in an interview with Newsarama she spoke of how Hayao Miyazaki’s Future Boy Conan was an inspiration for the setting of Steven Universe.
Whisper of the Heart is based on a Manga that was published in 1989 with the same name but it was by Aoi Hiiragi, it went onto being made into a film that was written by Hayao Miyazaki and directed by Yoshifumi Kondō who unfortunately passed away three years after the film was released in Japan due to an aneurysm from being overworked. Most likely was the reason Hayao Miyazaki announced he would retire in 1998 but later would return to Studio Ghibli.
