A Nostalgic feeling, but lacks heart.
Now I don’t say this to be mean, I grew up with Bruce Timm’s Iconic animated tv toons it was a great trip down memory lane to see and hear the characters we grew up with but this felt more like a movie you would rent than would own as most of DC’s other Animated films (Except for Killing Joke, sorry fans but that is where I draw the line.)
With the beginning of the film being disguised as a clever easter egg of the Justice League Unlimited Episode ‘Far From Home‘ which surprisingly the episode was released on April 15th, 2009, while this film was released on April 16th, 2019. Again, a 10 Year anniversary treat for fans who grew up with the series; however, this was different from that episode. The Legion had to bring back Supergirl to help save the other Legionnaires from the Fatal Five while in this film it was Star-Man who had to stop the Fatal Five from getting to Jessica Cruz in order to break into the Science Cells to break the Emerald Empress out.
Starman and Jessica Cruz were two characters that stood out the most of this film, Starman (Like most heroes) have battled more than just villains, they have also battled with PTSD, Mental Illnesses. A great example was Jessica’s ongoing battle with the trauma suffered from the past that instills her with so much terror, she can barely leave her home each day.
The Sidekick Syndrome
Batman is a great hero, don’t get me wrong but I believe that Miss Martian was poorly portrayed, even though she was more of a Super-Powered Robin than a Hero; even though she was something that the Justice League needed and that was a fresh face on an aging formula to push sales for Animated Justice League films.
Final Grade: 5.9 out of 10, Great to relive Nostalgia but more of a Rental at best.
