DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn has unveiled five bold new character posters for Supergirl, giving fans a vibrant first look at Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El and the rest of the cast ahead of the film’s June 26 theatrical release.
The posters drew praise from many Supergirl fans for their vibrant, punk-rock aesthetic, though Alcock has faced some online criticism after pushing back against detractors in a recent interview. Despite the backlash, early reactions to the new character posters have largely been positive.
Joining Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl and Jason Momoa as Lobo are Matthias Schoenaerts (“The Old Guard”) as the lead villain Krem of the Yellow Hills; Eve Ridley (“3 Body Problem”) as Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young girl who recruits Supergirl to avenge her father’s death; and David Krumholtz (“Oppenheimer”) and Emily Beecham (“Cruella”) as Kara’s parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze. David Corenswet will also reprise his role as Kara’s cousin Kal-El/Superman, alongside her super-powered dog Krypto.
The film will be directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Fright Night, Cruella), and writer Bilquis Evely handling the screenplay for the film, which will adapt the Eisner Award-Winning Limited series, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which was written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. Supergirl is produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran, Supergirl is set to debut in theaters on June 26th, 2026.
Supergirl was created by writer Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino, making her first appearance as Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El in the story “The Supergirl from Krypton” in Action Comics #252 (May 1959). Since her debut, she has starred in multiple solo comic series and appeared across countless DC titles. On television and in animation, Kara has featured in Superman The Animated Series, Batman The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, DC Superhero Girls, and My Adventures with Superman, and others. In live-action, she starred in the 1984 feature film Supergirl, made a cameo in The Flash (2023), and led her own CW series from 2015 to 2021, with an earlier guest appearance on Smallville.
Lobo was created by writer Roger Slifer and artist Keith Giffen, debuting in Omega Men #3 (June 1983). The over-the-top antihero later received his own ongoing series in 1990 and has appeared throughout various DC comics. He has also popped up in animation such as Superman: The Animated Series and Young Justice, as well as the live-action series Krypton. Both Supergirl and Lobo have made numerous cameo appearances in DC video games.
