Special Thanks To NetGalley and Oni Press for the ARC to review.

Let’s crank those engines and rock and ride into a brand-new review of Biker Mice from Mars: Red Planet Panic! The radical rodents from the ’90s cartoon are getting a second life in comics. Question is: does Volume One deliver the high-octane action fans have been waiting for, or is it just burning rubber? As always, if you want to read my previous reviews, click here to read the latest reviews.

Hot on the heels—or in this case, wheels—of Nacelleverse Vol. 1: Biker Mice from Mars & RoboForce: The Red Planet is revolting! And those hard-charging rebels Throttle, Vinnie, and Modo have joined up with Mars’ Freedom Fighters to fight the invading army of alien Plutarkian invaders. An unexpected threat has emerged, threatening the existence of their families, friends, and the fourth planet itself, the Biker Mice find themselves facing a galaxy-spanning menace with ties to Earth as well as the Plutarkian homeworld! This is a story that has taken place before everybody’s favorite revolutionary rodent trio before they arrived on planet Earth. (Collects Issues One-Four)

These ’90s revivals often venture into dangerous territory — some get overly gritty and lose the soul of the original, while others cling so tightly to the source material that they feel cringey and dated. Thankfully, Biker Mice from Mars: Red Planet Panic threads the needle pretty well. It preserves the over-the-top brotherhood and radical energy that made Throttle, Vinnie, and Modo work so well, while smartly tweaking a few areas to make everything feel fresh and stronger.Writer Melissa Flores does a great job re-establishing the world and the high-stakes conflict on Mars, including the Plutarkians’ corporate greed and resource plunder — a theme that sadly still resonates today as corporations grow even more ruthless. The story is easy to follow and paced perfectly, so new readers can jump right in without feeling lost.

Without spoiling too much, Biker Mice from Mars: Red Planet Panic is a thrilling sci-fi joyride. Daniel Gete’s artwork is vibrant and kinetic, capturing the heavy metal energy of the original animated series while giving Mars’ desert wastelands a distinct Mad Max flair. The action sequences are dynamic and fast-paced, perfectly complementing Melissa Flores’ script. At its core, this is an action-packed science fiction story that balances high-stakes thrills with genuine emotional depth. Compared to the original cartoon, the volume strikes a noticeably grittier and more serious tone, while still preserving the camaraderie and adventurous spirit that define the Biker Mice.
