Chainsaw Man (チェンソーマン) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. The first part, known as the Public Safety Arc (公安編), was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from December 3rd, 2018, to December 14th, 2020. Following its conclusion, the second part — the School Arc (学校編), also referred to as the Academy Saga — began serialization on Shueisha’s digital platform Shōnen Jump+ on July 13th, 2022, and concluded on March 25th, 2026. The series was adapted into an anime television series by studio MAPPA, which aired from October to December 2022. It was followed by the theatrical anime film Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc (released in Japan in September 2025), which continues the story directly from the first season. A sequel anime season adapting the International Assassins Arc has been officially announced and is currently in production. Additionally, Chainsaw Man has inspired a popular stage play adaptation. The first run premiered in 2023, with a second production — Chainsaw Man The Stage: Reze Arc — scheduled for performances in Tokyo and Kyoto in July–August 2026. Viz Media licenses the manga for English-language release in North America, while the anime and first stage play is available on Crunchyroll and other platforms, but it was recently announced that the Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc would make its debut on Crunchyroll on April 30th.

Denji worked as a Devil Hunter for the yakuza, trying to pay off the debt he inherited from his parents, until the yakuza betrayed him and had him killed. As he was losing consciousness, Denji’s beloved chainsaw-powered devil-dog, Pochita, made a deal with Denji and saved his life.
This fused the two together, creating the unstoppable Chainsaw Man. Now, in a brutal war between devils, hunters, and secret enemies, a mysterious girl named Reze has stepped into his world, and Denji faces his deadliest battle yet, fueled by love in a world where survival knows no rules.
