Halloween is almost here, and the new Chainsaw Man movie tore its way to the No. 1 spot at the US Box Office during the weekend. Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc earned $18 million from 3,003 North American theaters. Monday’s final tally was higher than Sunday’s estimate of $17.2 million.

This was the second consecutive win for Sony’s Crunchyroll following September’s “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle,” which cemented a genre record with its $70 million debut. According to Anime News Network, it was the third in seven weekends to have an anime film topping the U.S. box office and the third weekend with a #1 film tied to a Shonen Jump manga. The first to accomplish this feat was Pokémon: The First Movie, over a century ago. The second time was Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero in 2022. 63% of the revenue for the Reze Arc’s US Box Office came from premium formats such as IMAX and 3D, and the AMC Empire theater in New York City alone brought in US$72,000. 75% of the audience was male, and 50% were under 25.

The film added US$14.7 million this past weekend in 46 overseas Sony markets (besides North America) for a new total of US$60.4 million. Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc debuted at No. 1, dethroning Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba: Infinity Castle- Akaza Sairai which reigned supreme at No. 1 for nine weeks straight in Japan.
