The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4 Set to Premiere in July

During the “Shield Festival: The Rising of the Shield Hero – The LIVE of the Shield Hero,” held at Sakura Hall in the Owada Cultural Center, Shibuya, Tokyo, a new key visual and promotional trailer were released for the upcoming fourth season of the The Rising of the Shield Hero TV anime, confirming that it will be premiering on July 9th at 21:00 JST.

In the new trailer, it also previewed the fourth season’s ending theme “Eien ni Ikkai no” (One Time for Eternity) performed by Chiai Fujikawa. Crunchyroll previously confirmed that it will be streaming the fourth season. For staff news, Hitoshi Haga will continue to direct at studio Kinema Citrus, with series composition by Keigo Koyanagi, character designs by Franziska van Wulfen, Sana Komatsu, and Masahiro Suwa, and music by Kevin Penkin.

Also, it has been confirmed by Oricon that the fourth season’s Blu-ray and DVD distribution will be divided into three volumes in Japan. The first edition bonuses include a booklet featuring an original short novel written by series creator Aneko Yusagi, and a reversible jacket illustrated by original character designer Seira Minami and the anime team. Each volume also includes video extras and trailers as recurring bonuses. Finally, six retailers will offer exclusive store-specific bonuses. Early reservation campaigns and signed script giveaways are also planned. Volume 1 is scheduled for release on October 29. Keep in mind, this is Japan only, nothing has been confirmed in the West about Physical Media news related to Season Four.

The Rising of the Shield Hero TV Anime is based on the light novel series written by Aneko Yusagi and illustrated by Seira Minami, The light novel series made its debut as a web novel on the user-generated novel website Shōsetsuka ni Narō and was later published by Media Factory. The Light Novel series consists of 27 volumes, One Peace Books licensed the book series for English audiences in September 2015. The Rising of the Shield Hero would also inspire a spin-off series (The Reprise of the Spear Hero) available as a light novel and manga, a manga adaptation, a video game, and a stage play. Iwatani Naofumi, a run-of-the-mill otaku, finds a book in the library that summons him to another world. He is tasked with joining the sword, spear, and bow as one of the Four Cardinal Heroes and fighting the Waves of Catastrophe as the Shield Hero.

Excited by the prospect of a grand adventure, Naofumi sets off with his party. However, merely a few days later, he is betrayed and loses all his money, dignity, and respect. Unable to trust anyone anymore, he employs a slave named Raphtalia and takes on the Waves and the world.

But will he find a way to overturn this desperate situation?
