Medalist TV Anime Picks Up A Second Season

A fan-favorite anime series, Medalist will be getting a second season according to a new announcement from the Medalist PR Twitter account.

A special visual was revealed in the new announcement, along with a commemorative video. At this time, the second season is most likely in production, so there isn’t a release date set at this time.

The first season of Medalist made its debut in Japan on the “NUMAnimation” on TV Asahi and 23 affiliated channels on January 4th at 25:30 (effectively, January 5 at 1:30 a.m.), and on BS Asahi on January 6th. Disney+ streamed the anime internationally, while it streams in the United States on Hulu. A fun fact about the choreography that was featured in the first season, Former Olympic skater Akiko Suzuki choreographed the skating routines in the first season of the anime, in collaboration with retired figure skater Yuhana Yokoi and active competitive figure skater Hinano Isobe.

Medalist was written and illustrated by Tsurumaikada and was first serialized in Kodansha’s seinen manga magazine Monthly Afternoon in May 2020 and is still an ongoing series. As of January 2025, the series has been collected into twelve tankobon volumes. A year later in March, Kodansha USA announced that it would license and publish the title for English Audiences digitally, it would be three years later that it would get a print release in March 2024. The manga won in the Best General Manga category in last year’s Shogakukan Manga Awards. It would also win Best General Manga at Kodansha’s 48th annual Manga Awards in May 2024. The chapters are simu-published on Kodansha’s K-Manga app.
