The staff of Paru Itagaki’s SANDA TV Anime had the best way to market the new series by releasing a new teaser trailer and cast list on Christmas Day. The best part of the announcement was that the series will be released in Fall 2025.
The staff joining the new series consists of Tomohisa Shimoyama (Yurei Deco, Super Shiro) as the Director, Kimiko Ueno (Delicious in Dungeon, Ranma 1/2) will supervise and write the scripts, Masamichi Ishiyama (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off) serves as the character designer and chief animation director, and FPM’s Tomoyuki Tanaka (Superflat Monogram) is composing the music for an animated series for the first time. Also, Science Saru will be handling the animation production, the cast is listed below:
Kazushige Sanda– Ayumu Murase (Haikyu!!, Hirogaru Sky! Precure, Welcome to Demon-School, Iruma-kun)
Santa Claus– Hiroki Tōchi (Ace of Diamond, Yakitate!! Japan, Fairy Tail)
SANDA (Not to be confused with the Chinese Kick Boxing sport by the same name) was first serialized in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shonen Champion Magazine on July 21, 2021, and ended its run on July 11, 2024, being collected into sixteen tankobon volumes. Fun fact about SANDA, Paru Itagaki had a one-shot originally featuring Santa Claus and a Sex Worker (there’s more to that story than what you’d expect, it’s also featured in her other manga, Drip Drip) which was part of Nihon Bungeisha’s seinen manga magazine Weekly Manga Goraku on September 7, 2018. She wanted to use the Santa from her One-Shot for her future manga, which was aimed at younger readers, but there was a catch. Her editor agreed on the condition that she would first make a one-volume manga for the publisher, which would learn it was Drip Drip (Bota Bota).
Set in Japan in 2080. Affected by the declining birthrate in the country, a series of control policies were implemented for minors, including arranging marriage partners from infancy, not allowing children to sleep to slow down development, and having to use the bathroom separately from adults. An ordinary boy named Sanda finds out that one of his classmates, Shiori Fuyumura, is trying to kill him, because of Fuyumura’s missing friend and a certain “curse” that Sanda is carrying.
