Have Yourself a “Very Ugly” Christmas With This New Sonic 3 Promotion

Yesterday, Paramount Pictures and SEGA launched a special limited-time promotion just for the holidays and it involved a very ugly mascot. They brought back one of the best memes, Ugly Sonic for the 12 Hours of Sonic Giveaway, which featured a special promotional item that fans could win, which lived up to the Ugly Christmas Sweater legacy, Ugly Sonic Sweater.

Unfortunately, the promotion ended yesterday but it did offer some amazing items to win such as signed posters from Keanu Reeves and Ben Schwartz, Sonic Lego Sets, the exclusive Sonic 3 SEGA Cartridges, etc. As for the main topic regarding Ugly Sonic, it was his first film design for 2019 and it led to fan backlash and memes (Critics described the tactic as Bullying, but it was the only way that fans could get their voices heard). The 2020 film would become a box office hit, consisting of two sequels (the third preparing to open on December 20) and a TV series spinoff focusing on Knuckles. The Ugly Sonic meme would find even more success in the Disney film based on the Classic Disney Afternoon Cartoon, Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers.

Back on the subject of the holidays, Paramount Pictures and SEGA would also stream a new holiday short featuring Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Shadow. David H. Brooks directed the short animated by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. Adam Pally (Wade in live-action movies/series) voiced Santa. It would also include parody holiday film posters consisting of parodies such as Die Hard, Scrooged, a Christmas Story, and Home Alone.

Keanu Reeves will be voicing Shadow, and Jim Carrey will take on duo roles, returning as Dr. Robotnik, and the role of Gerald Robotnik, Dr. Robotnik’s Grandfather. Ben Schwartz, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Idris Elba will be returning to reprise their roles as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, while we also see the return of James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone. Maria will be portrayed by Alyla Browne (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Nine Perfect Strangers). Jeff Fowler, who directed the first two films, returns for the third. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be released in North America on December 20 and in Japan, it will be released on December 27.

Shadow, Gerald, and Maria were first introduced in the platform game sequel Sonic Adventure 2 on the SEGA Dreamcast on June 19, 2001. The trio (Gerald and Maria in flashback sequences) would make another appearance again in the spin-off title Shadow the Hedgehog and other areas throughout Comic books and on the TV anime series, Sonic X. Shadow played a big role in the new video game Sonic x Shadow Generations, which is available now for the following consoles: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.
