The Final Fantasy XIV FanFest kicked off its first day in Tokyo recently, revealing a vast wealth of new information on the upcoming expansion Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. The event revealed a brand-new magical-ranged DPS class The Pictomancer, a new race option for the Hrothgar, and so much more.
In addition to the new information on the expansion, a keynote address was given at the beginning of the event by the Director and Producer, Naoki Yoshida, saying “We will not be releasing on Square Enix time; we will be releasing on [Final Fantasy] XIV time, which means properly in summer,” Yoshida said. “So we will work very hard to get you that info as soon as possible and will have it for you next time, so thank you for your patience.” signaling that they were trying to avoid a similar situation that they had with Endwalker. As for the new job class, it’s nice to see Square Enix bringing clever nods to other games such as Capcom’s Okami, and Nintendo’s Splatoon series with the Magical-Ranged DPS class, The Pictomancer. But this was also a nostalgic reminder of Final Fantasy VI’s Relm Arrowny and Final Fantasy Brave Exvius’s Poppy. Here are the specs for the new job class:
- The Pictomancer uses a Paintbrush as a Weapon for Ranged DPS attacks
- Paints a variety of Monsters, Landscapes, Weapons, and more to fight enemies and Buffs for their Party
- Its unique style of fighting and the use of Pastel Colors make it one of the most visually intriguing of Final Fantasy XIV (Which is nice since it softens the blow of the company’s potentially aggressive use of AI in the future for development in their games.)
- Krile, the iconic Scion of the Seventh Dawn Archon, is picking up this new job, and will be available as a new Duty Support character.
- Players can pick up the Pictomancer job in Gridania once they reach level 80 on at least one other job.
Next was a brand-new race option for the Hrothgar, this will be the Hrothgar from Yok Tural. The latest trailer showcased a female Hrothgar named Wuclomat, the daughter of the current ruler of Tural, and she’s the one who requested the Scions’ help. Players will have a chance to play this new race in the upcoming expansion.
Joining the Pictomancer and Viper class will be the Beastmaster. This limited class will make its debut in late 7. x patch cycle. This new class has similarities to the classes from Final Fantasy V and XI, no other notable details were mentioned.
Heads up Warriors of Light, we’re getting new RAIDS! That’s right, starting with the original raid series The Arcadion. The Arcadion is a new 8-Man Raid Series that will take place in Solution Nine. As for the other new raid, we’re entering into the Ultimate territory with Futures Rewritten (Ultimate), this new raid will bring players back to Eden and see different “what-if” scenarios with Ryne and Gaia. Another raid that was previously announced was Echoes of Vana’diel, a crossover series with Final Fantasy XI.

Next, we’re looking at two new areas. Solution Nine is a city that is described as a city of towering facades constructed by entirely different civilizations than that of Tuliyollal. Heritage Found, an area overflowing with lightning energies, with thick thunderclouds blotting out the sun, with streaks of purple Levin illuminating the land day and night.
Finally, we’re looking at a new expansive lifestyle content coming to Dawntrail called Cosmic Exploration. This will let players visit other planets, unfortunately, this will be released after Dawntrail. We are introduced to a new, diverse population of Mamool Ja Allies, players will be working side by side. Listed below is a gorgeous illustration drawn by Akihito Yoshida. Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail will be available in Summer 2024.
