EVO 2023: What Was Announced! The Celebration of Fighting Games

Over the weekend, it was the biggest fighting game tournament in the world, but it was also home to the biggest announcements for fighting video games. Let’s take a look at what was announced at this year’s EVO 2023!

The King Of Fighters XIII Global Match, XV Get New Trailers, and More.

It was a surprise to see SNK’s King of Fighters making its return to EVO, bringing two new trailers: One for KOF XIII Global Match, and trailers for KOF XV’s DLC Characters, Duo Lon, and Najd. King of Fighters XIII Global Match will launch on November 16th for Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch, and will feature a rollback netcode overhaul and upgraded online functionality.

King of Fighters XV is available now for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, XBox Series X|S, Windows 10, Steam, and Epic Games. Najd will be available on the Fighter Pass on August 8th, and Duo Lon will be available in Autumn.

COWABUNGA! Street Fighter 6 Gets A TMNT Collaboration! A.K.I. teased for Autumn 2023

First, we got a five-issue miniseries called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Vs. Street Fighter. Now, a special collaboration has been announced for Street Fighter Six! In this collaboration, players will be able to pick up TMNT gear, emotes, titles, stamps, and costumes that will turn them into their favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. The Collaboration will launch on August 8th.

Next up, is a fighter who has been described as a “maniacal poison aficionado” who “can’t wait to sink her nails into her opponents. That fighter is named A.K.I. and we got a new teaser trailer showcasing her sadistic side, but no gameplay trailer yet. A.K.I will be part of the new DLC Fighter Pack alongside Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, and Akuma. She will make her debut in Autumn 2023. Street Fighter 6 is available on Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Mortal Kombat One Brings Back Reptile, Ashrah, Havik, and Sareena

It wouldn’t be EVO without one of the fiercest fighting games making an appearance, and that is Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat One has been setting up an interesting new world and bringing back fan favorites, seeing the return of Reptile, Ashrah, Havik, and even Sareena, who was from Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is returning as a Kameo fighter. The game will be released on September 19th for the following consoles: Playstation 5, XBox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Players who purchase the Mortal Kombat 1 Premium Edition or Mortal Kombat 1 Kollector’s Edition will have early access to the game beginning Sept. 14th, 2023. It’s available for pre-order now.

Guilty Gear -Strive- Reaches 2.5 Million Players Globally and New Details Emerge Regarding Season Three

Arc System Works has a lot to celebrate this year, Guilty Gear -Strive- has reached a new record with the game exceeding 2.5 Million players worldwide, the first game to do so in the publisher’s history. Next up was the announcement of a new DLC Fighter, the Captain of the Jellyfish Pirates, Johnny. Johnny will be joining the Season Pass on August 24th.

According to IGN, Season 3 will also bring with it two new systems in the Wild Assault offensive mechanic and the Deflect Shield defensive mechanic. Wild Assault is a “rush attack move with powerful effects” while Deflect Shield “creates a large distance between you and your opponent after blocks.” Guilty Gear -Strive- is available now on Playstation 4, Playstation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Windows, and Steam.

Fatal Fury: City of Wolves

Fatal Fury Fans Rejoice, we’re finally getting a new Fatal Fury game! SNK blew fans away with this surprise announcement, Fatal Fury: City of The Wolves will be coming soon but there wasn’t any other information involved with it. This is the first Fatal Fury game since 1999.

Project L Reveals Its Fourth Character, Yasuo

Riot Games showed off its newest fighting video game, Project L in a playable demo. This 2 vs. 2 team-based battle game has a brand-new fighter, Yasuo. Riot Games mentioned the game would have tag-team mechanics, and will support one-versus-one, two-versus-two, and even two-versus-one fights. Project L will be a Free-to-Play game that will feature League of Legends Champions.

Tekken 8 Adds Raven and Azucena To The Lineup

While there isn’t a release date, Tekken 8 is bringing in more fighters. Making his return is Raven, the secret intelligence officer who made his debut in Tekken 5, and a newcomer named Azucena, the self-proclaimed Peruvian Coffee Queen. Meanwhile, Tekken 8 will be available on Playstation 5, XBox Series X|S, and PC.
