NHK World-Japan Launches A New Documentary Focusing on Captain Tsubasa

About a year ago, I wrote an article focusing on a brand-new documentary that focused on the legendary manga series created by Tetsuya Chiba and Asao Takamori titled Ashita no Joe. Today, we’re following up on another documentary that puts the spotlight on another beloved sports manga series, Takahashi Yōichi’s Captain Tsubasa.

A new docuseries titled Anime Manga Explosion, a series that dives into the world of anime and manga had a new episode that focuses on Captain Tsubasa. It features an in-depth interview with the series creator Takahashi Yōichi, discussing the secrets behind the series and discovering how Captain Tsubasa became a beloved series across the globe.

Captain Tsubasa was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine between April 13th, 1981, to May 9th, 1988, and consisted of 37 tankōbon volumes The series consisted of various manga sequels, anime, and animated film adaptations, including a new anime adaption that is set to premiere in October 2023. The upcoming series will serve as the second season of the fourth tv anime series focusing on the Junior Youth Arc from the manga. It is set at an international junior youth tournament held in France. Variety also announced that Viz Media has made its move on a deal for digital streaming, TV, electronic sell-thru, home video, and merchandise rights for North and Latin American territories.
