Today is Memorial Day. We are honoring not only the men and women who have served and fallen in the line of duty, but we are also honoring the lives that were lost during the Tulsa Massacre.
Memorial Day is a Day to honor the men and women who have served in the performance of their military duties. Red’s Nerd Den salutes and thanks the men and women of the US Military who have made the Ultimate Sacrifice to protect our country and freedom.

This week also marks the 102nd Anniversary of the Tulsa Massacre, one of the worst acts of Racial Violence in American History, when the white residents of the Greenwood District formed a mob and were given weapons by City Officials. Most were deputized and began to attack black residents and black businesses. The attacks were carried out on the ground and from private aircraft, destroying more than 35 square blocks of the district, which at that time was the wealthiest Black community in the United States known as Black Wall Street. Today, a Century later the Legacy of that weekend is felt and we must honor the lives lost on this day, and do better for future generations.
Recently, there have been politicians and groups performing acts of hate and violence, spreading misinformation, and making policies that alienate communities of race and sexual identity, and policies regarding women’s bodies under the guise of Patriotism and dwelling in the fantasy of Making America Great Again. Their actions are misguided and do not speak for what makes a Country great. On this Memorial Day, we must not only honor the lives lost in the line of duty, but we also must honor the lives of the Men, Women, Families, and Businesses who were affected by this disgusting act of racism and violence.
