She is one of the fiercest foes that Aang and Zuko have fought and is a cult-favorite character in Avatar: The Last Airbender. She is Azula of the Fire Nation, and she will be taking the lead in her own Avatar The Last Airbender Graphic Novel, Avatar: The Last Airbender- Azula In The Spirit Temple

It is set in the continuity of the original show. Azula in the Spirit Temple will feature a creative team consisting of Faith Erin Hicks, Peter Wartman, Adele Matera, and Jimmy Betancourt. It focuses on the time when Azula left the Fire Nation, after her brother, Fire Lord Zuko’s ascent to power.

Who is Azula?

She was the Princess of the Fire Nation, the Daughter of Fire Lord Ozai and Ursa, the Younger Sister of Zuko, and the older half-sister of Kiyi. Azula was a Fire Bending Prodigy, cunning, and a skilled strategist. But she served as the key adversary of Team Avatar, chasing Aang and her banished brother Zuko across the Earth Kingdom, accompanied by her two former friends, Mai and Tye Lee. She orchestrated the coup of the Earth Kingdom Capital, Ba Sing Se, and halted the invasion on the day of the Black Sun.

Aside from her talent, she was also manipulative and harbored Mental Instabilities, believing that her mother loved her brother more. She was raised by Ozai in an environment without a mother figure. Azula had to be nothing less than perfect in her father’s eyes to gain his attention and affection. This would come to a head after both of her friends betrayed her, and during the fight with Zuko and Katara upon the arrival of Sozin’s Comet.

After her breakdown, she would be put in a Mental Facility instead of a prison, where like her father, she would be continuously monitored. Azula would eventually join Team Avatar in search of Ursa. She would have secretly intended to betray her brother and usurp the throne from him. She would escape from their supervision and make her return to the Fire Nation in Secret. While she finally accepted that she will never be the Fire Lord, that didn’t stop her from manipulating her brother, where she would try to rule through him.

She would go on to gather supporters, even taking the guise of the Mythical Kemurikage to intimidate Ukano into threatening her Brother Zuko. It would fail in the long run and would have her supporters kidnap children in the capital, causing the city into civil unrest. Her brother and his allies would rescue the children while Azula and her followers would once again disappear into the darkness.
