It was another title slated to come to Disney Plus in the US. Like Tatami Time Machine Blues, Bleach: The Thousand-Year Blood War, and Tokyo Revengers (Season Two), it made it to Hulu. The title I’m referring to is Summer Time Rendering.
Yesterday, UDON Entertainment announced on its Twitter account. The anime series based on Yasuki Tanaka’s Summer Time Rendering finally made its debut on Hulu (Both Sub and English Dubbed). It was one of the biggest hits of 2022 overseas and was originally announced to debut in the United States in a new deal struck by Disney to license and produce new anime projects. The news, however, had fans concerned over whether or not it would ever be viewed outside Japan.
What is Summer Time Rendering?
First serialized in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump Plus Digital Manga Magazine, it was written and illustrated by Yasuki Tanaka. Summer Time Rendering made its debut in October 2017 and ended in February 2021. The story follows Shinpei Aijrio, who grew up with the Kofune Sisters, Ushio, and Milo, before living by himself in Tokyo after the death of his parents. It would be two years later when Shinpei returned to his hometown of Hitogashima Island, Wakayama Prefecture, to attend a funeral for Ushio following the news of her drowning. Something about her sudden death makes Shinpei suspect that she was intentionally murdered after the news of strangle marks found around Ushio’s neck. Now, he is haunted by her “ghost” and assisted by her sister, Milo, as Shinpei tries to find answers to what happened to Ushio and possibly save the residents of Hitogashima Island from a strange, ominous enigma.
It has been collected into thirteen tankobon volumes and has a two-part spin-off series titled Summer Time Rendering 2026: The Room that Dreams of Murders. Which was published in Shonen Jump Plus in April 2022 and published for English Audiences on Shueisha’s Manga Plus App. Udon Entertainment announced that it would license the manga and releases it for English Audiences, it currently has Six Volumes published.
Summer Time Rendering also has a Visual Novel titled Summer Time Rendering: Another Horizon which follows the events in the anime and six original stories with an original ending. The game was released on Playstation 4 and the Nintendo Switch.
