The Boys of Shohoku High are no strangers to big surprises and upsets, but Toei Animation is pulling the biggest surprise ahead of the premiere of The First Slam Dunk!
Toei Animation held its first Livestream for the upcoming film, surprising fans with a new voice cast and new theme music artists.
Japanese garage rock band, The Birthday will be performing the opening theme song for THE FIRST SLAM DUNK with 10-FEET performing the ending theme song. 10-FEET’s Takuma and Satoshi Takebe are also composing the music for the anime film.

Toei Animation and DandeLion Animation Studio are animating the movie. Original mangaka Takehiko Inoue is directing the movie and writing the screenplay. Yasuyuki Ebara is doing character designs and also serving as chief animation director. The series is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, but you will need a Premium Subscription to watch it.
Fans in Japan will be able to catch the action both in regular theaters and IMAX on December 3rd. But that’s not all, on December 10th, The First Slam Dunk will not only debut on 40 IMAX Screens but it will expand to Dolby Cinema Screens at 34 theaters. Advance Tickets are now available for regular and IMAX viewings a month ahead of the premiere.
This iconic Sports Manga ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1990 to 1996 for a total of 31 volumes. The manga inspired a television anime in 1993 and had four anime film sequels. Viz Media released all 31 volumes of the manga in English.
