The Original Anime Feature from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation, Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim has a new release date, and it is set for April 12th, 2024, according to Variety. Below, is the new concept art by Weta Workshop, showing the walls of Rohan’s capital Edoras being breached.

The new film takes place around 250 years before the trilogy films and will be during the third age, focusing on King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, and the legendary battle that shaped Middle-Earth heading into LoTR, the untold story of Helm’s Deep. Also, a note that Amazon’s new Lord of the Ring’s new mini-series, focusing on the Second Age.
Famed Anime Director Kenji Kamiyama, best known for his work on Eden of the East, Cyborg 009, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Blood: The Last Vampire, and finally, Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, while Warner Bros. Animation is partnering with New Line Cinema for this project, Sola Entertainment handling the Animation production. Handling the script will be Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, Joseph Chou, and Jason DeMarco will be producing. Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings: Return of the King scribe Philippa Boyens will be a consultant on the new film, recently announced are Phoebe Gittins, Boyens’ daughter and writing partner Arty Papageorgiou is penning the screenplay based on a script from Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. And the creative team includes Richard Taylor (who won Oscars for makeup and visual effects for “The Lord of the Rings”), Alan Lee (who won an Oscar for art direction for “LOTR”), and Tolkien illustrator John Howe.
