Well fellow comic book fans, today is DC FanDome! Today we’re beginning the coverage first with the Milestone Media Panel, presented by Milestone Media’s Producer Reginald Hudlin and Milestone Media Co-Founder Denys Cowan and moderated by Actor Echo Kellum (Curtis Holt/Mr. Terrific from Arrow). Reggie and Denys first announced that there are new projects on the way from their partnership with DC Comics and the Dakota Universe, this includes the long-awaited return of the Blood Syndicate with a brand new Comic Book Series for 2022.

The duo did not reveal a Creative Team yet but was discussing how much the fans have been clamoring for the return of the Blood Syndicate. Not familiar with the Blood Syndicate? Let’s catch you up to speed! Created by Milestone Co-Founder Dwayne McDuffie, writer Ivan Velez Jr., and Cowan, The Blood Syndicate was a loosely affiliated ‘Gang’ of Superheroes that consisted mostly of former street gang members who gained powers due to the Milestone ‘Big Bang’ origin and used their powers for good. The series consisted of 35 Issues and ran from 1993 to 1996. Also, Hudlin and Cowan confirmed that there were plans for a Season Two for each series and their characters will be appearing in each other’s titles, reestablishing the shared Dakota Universe.

Also, coming in February 2022, the characters will be included in an Anthology Collection taking part in DC Comics’ Black History Month Celebration. It also features the release of Milestone Compendium One, a trade paperback consisting of 1,300 pages and the following stories: Blood Syndicate #1-12, Hardware #1 -12, Icon #1-10, Static #1-8, Xombi #1-8, and Shadow Cabinet #0.
Going deeper into Milestone Multimedia, in March we learned that writer Randy McKinnon would be writing the script for the live-action adaption for Static Shock, which is currently in production with Warner Bros. And Michael B.Jordan’s Outlier Society Production. Then Hudlin and Cowan dropped a bombshell, confirming that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation are developing an animated film involving Milestone, based on a screenplay involving Hardware: Season One writer Brandon Thomas. They also shared a new visual teasing the Dakotaverse, drawn by legendary artist Bill Sienkiewicz.

Finally, Reginald Hudlin and Denys Cowan announced a brand new initiative that would elevate the next generation of Diverse Creators in the Comic Book Industry with The Milestone Initiative. This new program aimed to identify, support, and elevate artists emerging diverse writers and artists within the comic book industry, The Milestone Initiative gives fans in the U.S. the opportunity to apply for The Milestone Initiative Development Program, which includes a one-week in-person training seminar in DC’s Burbank, CA offices, followed by an eight-week virtual technical training course through the prestigious Kubert School, where participants can hone their storytelling skills and become part of the next wave of great comic book writers and artists.
The Milestone Initiative is the inaugural program from DC’s Next Generation DC, a talent recruitment, mentoring and development program designed to increase access and opportunities for writers, illustrators, and creatives from underrepresented communities across the globe to contribute to DC comic book content, expand representation and tell authentic stories featuring some of the most recognizable characters in comics.
