Last night was the 93rd Annual Academy Awards, a socially distanced star-studded event that was a night of firsts and upsets. Speaking of upsets, Anthony Hopkins won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in The Father, some hoped it would have gone to the late Chadwick Boseman who passed away last year. Meanwhile, Search Pictures had a big night for their film Nomadland, Chloé Zhao won the Oscar for Best Director, making history as the first woman of color to win and the second woman to win the award (the first was Kathryn Bigelow for her 2008 film, The Hurt Locker.)
This year’s Academy Awards was more of a celebration of Diversity, something needed since the protests of 2015, 2016 in the wake of #OscarsSoWhite, when all of its acting nominations were all white. This year, nine of twenty nominations went to people of color. Another major upset was Pixar’s Soul which won Best Animated Feature, some had favored Cartoon Saloon’s 2D Animated film WolfWalkers to win, Walt Disney Co. which also owns Pixar took home Five Oscars.
Here are the winners of the 93rd Annual Academy Awards, congratulations to everyone who won and was nominated. Your hard work and dedication to your work are an inspiration to us all.
